Even 5th-Gen Rookies Can’t Compete… 3rd-Gen Girl Groups Are Far From Over, Every Day Is Their Prime

The reign of 3rd generation girl groups, such as TWICE, Red Velvet, BLACKPINK, and OH MY GIRL, is far from over, despite the emergence of new 5th generation acts.
OH MY GIRL
On April 9, OH MY GIRL released their new song “Oh My” after a 7-month break, marking their 10th anniversary. The track is a heartfelt tribute to their decade-long journey and their dedicated fandom, Miracle.

Debuting in 2015 as the “sister group of B1A4,” OH MY GIRL won public affection with bright, bubbly hits like “Dun Dun Dance,” “Nonstop,” “Dolphin,” and “Summer Comes.” Their signature dreamy and innocent concept captivated fans with songs like “CLOSER,” “Windy Day,” and “Secret Garden,” earning both popularity and a loyal fandom. Besides group promotions, members have also expanded into solo music, variety shows, and acting.
The group’s journey is far from over. OH MY GIRL will host a solo concert titled “Milky Way” on April 19–20 at Olympic Hall in Seoul, celebrating their 10-year milestone and reaffirming their status as concert powerhouses.
BLACKPINK
BLACKPINK, who pursued solo activities in 2023, is reuniting this year for another historic moment. On July 5–6, the group will kick off their new world tour at Goyang Stadium, becoming the first K-pop girl group to headline the venue.

Their tour plans include a performance at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium, making them the first K-pop girl group and only the second K-pop act after BTS to hold a solo concert there—solidifying their position as global superstars.
RED VELVET
Red Velvet is also following the “together and solo” model. On April 4, SM Entertainment confirmed that Wendy and Yeri’s exclusive contracts had ended, but reassured fans that both members will continue to promote with Red Velvet. SM firmly denied disbandment rumors, stating that the group will continue their dazzling journey.

Yeri is reportedly in talks for an exclusive contract with BLITZWAY (home to Ju Ji-hoon), hinting at further activities in both music and acting, while attention also turns to Wendy’s next steps.
TWICE
TWICE, another pillar of the 3rd gen, continues to thrive on the global stage.

In April, they will appear as special guests at Coldplay’s concert in Korea, and on August 2 (local time), they are set to headline Lollapalooza Chicago—further showcasing their international influence.
Despite the rapid rise of new idols, these 3rd generation girl groups continue to prove that their era is far from over—their prime might just be eternal.
