After various unsuccessful works, Ji Chang-wook’s once glamorous career is showing signs of revival.
With various notable projects such as “Fabricated City”, “Empress Ki”, and “The K2”, Ji Chang-wook was one of Korea’s top-star actors.
However, after completing his military service in 2019, Ji Chang-wook’s post-enlistment works, such as “Melting Me Softly”, “Backstreet Rookie”, “The Sound of Magic”, and “If You Wish Upon Me” did not achieve outstanding results.
In 2023, however, Ji Chang-wook’s stagnant career is showing signs of revival after the broadcasts of “The Worst Of Evil” and especially “Welcome to Samdalri”, which marks a collaboration between Ji Chang-wook and the “Rating Queen” and star actress Shin Hye-sun.
Particularly, the first two episodes of “Welcome to Samdalri,” which aired on December 2-3, received stable viewership ratings, consistently topping the list of shows in the same time slot.
Episode 1 recorded a nationwide rating of 5.193%, and Episode 2 slightly surpassed it with 5.276%. This placed “Welcome to Samdalri” in the top 6 shows with the highest opening episode ratings on JTBC, surpassing even “Itaewon Class,” “Dr.Cha,” and “King The Land.”
Moreover, according to recent statistics, “Welcome to Samdalri” is among the top 10 Netflix TV shows in 25 countries worldwide. Based on the majority of viewers’ opinions, the show’s success is expected to increase further in the upcoming days.
Apart from the stellar acting of Ji Chang-wook and Shin Hye-sun, the script also plays a crucial role in garnering affection from the audience. Additionally, despite airing right after Ji Chang-wook’s recent work, “The Worst Of Evil”, viewers did not get confused between the two characters the actor played, showing a significant success for Ji Chang-wook as an actor.
Meanwhile, “Welcome to Samdalri” revolves around two main characters, Jo Sam-dal (Shin Hye-sun) and Jo Yong-pil (Ji Chang-wook). They have known each other since childhood, growing up together in Samdalri.
However, because Jo Sam-dal aspires to become a fashion photographer, she moves to Seoul to pursue her dream. Jo Yong-pil, on the other hand, chooses to stay in their hometown, and the two part ways. Many years later, Sam-dal returns to Samdalri and reunites with Yong Pil, and they decide to start over from the beginning.
