Not limited to her labelmates, Somi frequently engages with idols from other agencies, such as TWICE, Winter and Giselle of aespa, Huh Yunjin and Kazuha of LE SSERAFIM, Woozi of SEVENTEEN members, RM of BTS, among various others. As a result, a lot of K-pop fans ador Somi, and often praise her talent, charm, and open interactions with friends.

However, a recent move has caused Somi to receive backlash from K-pop fans.

Somi responded to a “hate tweet” on SNS platform X (formerly Twitter)

In particular, on December 7, Somi used the SNS platform X (former Twitter) to interact with fans. Here, she responded “Yay they like me” to a post using the F-word to curse at most of YG artists, saying, “F*ck BIGBANG F*ck TREASURE F*ck WINNER F*ck iKON F*ck 2NE1 WE LIKE YOU SOMI F*ck Loren”.

As a result, many find Somi’s action offensive, and the female idol deleted her response after the backlash. However, the controversy didn’t stop, as netizens brought up various past actions of Somi to further criticize her.

Claiming that “Teddy made BIGBANG.”

One of the most controversial actions was an interview of Somi where Teddy was mentioned. At the time of the interview, it didn’t gain much attention, but has since resurfaced after her recent controversy.

Specifically, when asked about Teddy in the aforementioned interview, Somi praised the star producer, adding that he “made” K-pop groups like 2NE1, BLACKPINK, BIGBANG, and so on.

According to fans of BIGBANG, however, BIGBANG was a self-made group, and G-Dragon was credited for 90% of the group’s hits. Therefore, Somi’s statement is said to be dismissive of BIGBANG’s own contributions and downplays the group in favor of praising Teddy.

Controversial actions towards fellow idols, Jennie dragged into the mess

Somi is a rare idol who comfortably interacts with fans on social media. On Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram, netizens often notice Somi liking or commenting on random videos and photos.

It was this tendency that caused the female idol to anger ENHYPEN fans, after interacting with a video comparing the performance outfits of the HYBE male group at the 2023 MAMA to… bloody tampons.

In late 2018, Somi left JYP to join The Black Label, eventually making her solo debut with the single “Birthday”. At that time, many JYP fans turned away from Somi for various reasons. One incident involved her liking comments that mock her former company, such as “Good that you left JYP. You deserve better” and “the look we would never get from JYP”.

Furthermore, Somi previously frustrated TWICE fans uploading a screenshot of the MelOn chart when Jennie’s “SOLO” dethroned TWICE’s “Yes Or Yes.”

At the time, the female idol posted a story congratulating Jennie for basically “surpassing” TWICE, sparking conflicting opinions. Despite maintaining a friendly relationship with TWICE members, Somi’s actions continue to be perceived as inappropriate and disrespectful.

Of course, amid criticisms, there are still fans defending Somi, claiming that these “offensive actions” are just harmless jokes and expressing their love for Somi’s carefree interactions.
