Five days after the late actor Lee Sun-kyun left our side, his colleagues and fans still expressed their sorrow
Actress Choi Kang-hee, who worked with the late Lee Sun-kyun in the 2008 SBS drama “My Sweet Seoul” and the 2010 movie “Petty Romance,”wrote on her personal social media account, “I don’t know how to comfort you right now, so I wish my heart’s prayers would reach you.”
She said, expressing her regret, “Just the fact that he has gone too far… I’m sorry that I’m ashamed as a colleague, friend, and human being.”
In addition, the actress added, “It was far-flung because we wanted to laugh and be happy about something serious and small, which was exceptionally normal. All the times of our day that were fun are still clear, so I really can’t believe it.” Choi Kang-hee continued, “Thank you for being born. And I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.“
On the other hand, Kim Young-chul, a TV personality, wrote on his social media account, “I heard the news while on vacation in another country.” He recalled the memory of the deceased, “In May 2019, he came to my radio show with Jo Yeo-jung to promote the movie “Parasite.” I remember us having fun together on the show for an hour and you laughing a lot. I remember us exchanging phone numbers and texting each other congratulatory messages on birthdays. It was a text message with sincerity even in a short line.”
Kim Young-chul said, “When I watched “My Mister” this year, I was scared and exhausted after knee surgery. I cried a lot and gained strength from his lines and acting in the drama. It was also the favorite drama of my life.” He said, “I wasn’t his friend, but I was the same age as him, cheering him on from afar. I wanted to say goodbye before the end of this year. I hope you are comfortable and peaceful, Sun-kyun.”
The Director Guild of Korea made a long post in memory of the late Lee Sun-kyun on December 30. “We would like to hug him and tell him that he tried hard before it was too late,” they said.
“Actor Lee Sun-kyun really step by step climbed the stairs to the top with his own strength.” They recalled, “After seven years of being unknown at the beginning of his debut, he gained public attention for his big dramas, but he did not care about his popularity and acted in even small productions where he needed to regardless of his popularity.”
DGK also explained, “He was willing to make friendship and unpaid appearances at the request of a long-term friend, and he was never stingy or over-greedy, he made his co-stars shine in even works that would expect great fame. That’s why he was a relatively rare actor. That’s why he was brave.”
Lastly, DGK said, “We failed to protect him,” and promised, “We are ashamed, but we will do our best to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.”
Meanwhile, the late Lee Sun-kyun suddenly passed away on December 27th while being investigated by the police on charges of drug use.
