In the latest episode of “Marry My Husband,” which aired on January 16th, Park Min-young and Na In-woo realized they both returned from the future and Korea’s leading artist BTS was used as an important hint in the process.
Kang Ji-won (Park Min-young) and Yoo Ji-hyuk (Na In-woo) noticed each other’s return while talking about BTS’s unreleased songs. The setting is different from that of the original webtoon, where Ji-won figured out Ji-hyuk also returned from the future by reading a letter behind the calendar while organizing things after he got into an accident.
In response, the production team of “Marry My Husband” revealed on January 17th, “We thought music would be the most direct and effective device for viewers to gain consensus and understand the situation.”
So, why is BTS the artist used in the drama out of all the artists? The answer lies in BTS’s debut year. “Marry My Husband” is a drama about Kang Ji-won, who was living in 2023, returning to 2013, 10 years ago. BTS’s debut year is also 2013.
“I thought it would be meaningful to incorporate BTS’s songs into the drama as they made their debut that year and rose to becoming world stars, and I thought it would be the best fit as viewers not only in Korea but also around the world could relate to it,” the production team said. Therefore, Park was listening to BTS’s debut song, “No More Dream” in the viral scene.
In addition, the production team also received copyright permission to use “Spring Day” and “Dynamite” in the plot, saying, “We talked with Big Hit, BTS’s agency, about how the music will be used, and detailed explanations of the scene, and they let us use the songs.”
Meanwhile, in the sixth episode of “Marry My Husband,” Kang Ji-won dropped her smartphone while talking to Yoo Ji-hyuk. When Yoo Ji-hyuk recognized the song she was listening to was BTS’ “No More Dreams,” Kang Ji-won said she wanted to listen to “Dynamite,” but couldn’t find it. Yoo then smiled, saying he preferred “Spring Day.” However, “Dynamite” and “Spring Day” were songs released in 2020 and 2017, respectively, revealing that they both returned from the future.
