How G-Dragon supports Daesung shows a simple and unadorned display of BIGBANG’s friendship, unlike with Seungri
On January 24th, G-Dragon shared the poster for Daesung’s upcoming fan meeting on his Instagram story. He also personally included the details of the fan meeting, including the performance title, date, time, and venue.
Previously, Daesung announced the first solo domestic fan meeting, ‘D’s ROAD in SEOUL.’ This fan meeting holds special significance for Daesung as it marks his first time spending time with Korean fans as a soloist.
The support from BIGBANG’s leader for Daesung’s new activities as a solo artist is heartwarming.
G-Dragon also promoted Daesung’s new song ‘Flow’ in December of last year. ‘Flow’ is Daesung’s solo song released in Korea after 13 years. At that time, G-Dragon himself was under police investigation for alleged drug use, but despite the circumstances, he showed sincere support to Daesung, revealing their unwavering friendship.
This stands in stark contrast to recent events where former BIGBANG member Seungri mentioned G-Dragon in a disruptive manner during an event in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
In a video spread online, Seungri declared, “Someday, I will bring G-Dragon here,” inducing enthusiastic responses from the audience. Seungri even danced to ‘GOOD BOY’ by G-Dragon and Taeyang.
Initially, in 2019, after the Burning Sun controversy, Seungri announced retirement from the entertainment industry and officially left BIGBANG, saying, “I thank all the fans who have given me a lot of love for the past 10 years. For the honor of YG and BIGBANG, I think this is the end.”
Given Seungri’s departure from the group under unfavorable circumstances, him unexpectedly mentioning G-Dragon sparked criticism.
However, G-Dragon showed no reaction to Seungri’s mention. Meanwhile, he openly supported Daesung. It can be seen as a dignified move that demonstrates true friendship and loyalty.
On the other hand, Seungri underwent investigation and was indicted in January 2020. He enlisted in the military in March 2020 and faced trial at a military court. Initially set to be discharged on September 16, 2021, Seungri was placed in pretrial detention after the first trial before serving as a private in the military prison.
Seungri was found guilty on a total of nine charges. Following a confirmed verdict, Seungri completed the remaining approximately nine months of his sentence in civilian prison and was released in February 2023.
