Lucas, who suspended his activities due to private life controversy, has initiated the process of returning to the entertainment industry
Lucas remains under SM Entertainment. It is known internally that plans for his practical return to the entertainment industry are being formulated. However, whether Lucas can overcome the private life controversy and reintegrate into the entertainment industry remains uncertain.
According to industry sources on Feb 21st, Lucas recently opened his own X (formerly Twitter) account. Additionally, the account bears a “SM” affiliation badge, proving it to be Lucas’s official account under SM Entertainment. The account has garnered over 20,000 followers.
Lucas halted his activities due to the “private life controversy” in August 2021. The controversy began with disclosures from netizen A, who claimed to be Lucas’s ex-girlfriend. A alleged that she was gaslighted during her relationship with Lucas and presented messenger conversations and selfies from Lucas as evidence.
Subsequently, several Chinese women claiming to be Lucas’s other ex-girlfriends emerged, all known to be his fans. Allegations arose that Lucas initiated relationships with them and demanded luxury gifts and hotel reservations.
Moreover, numerous other women came forward with revelations, and Lucas personally published a handwritten apology just 2 days after the controversy erupted.
He stated “I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt by my wrongful actions” and expressed deep reflection on his past actions, admitting they were irresponsible and betrayed the support of his fans.
In the industry, Lucas’s opening of the “X” official account signals his impending return to the entertainment industry. A music industry official stated, “Lucas is still an artist under SM Entertainment. Although time has passed since the controversy, it appears he maintains a good relationship with his agency. If both the agency and Lucas are determined, his return to the entertainment industry seems imminent.”
Lucas was a key artist promoted by SM Entertainment. Internally, the focus during Lucas’s controversy was more on his departure from the group rather than contract termination.
However, the official added, “Lucas suffered severe damage to his image. The reactions from Korean fans are divided between negative and positive. Management by SM Entertainment is crucial.”
Indeed, reactions have been divided, with comments ranging from “Private life is private life, let him come back and show a better side”, “It’s already over”, “Encouragement is needed rather than criticism since he apologized” to more critical remarks like “It seems like he hasn’t left yet”, “Looks like he’s on his way back” and “If they bring back SuperM, I won’t just stay silent.”
Several years have passed since the private life controversy erupted. While Lucas has apologized and reflected on his actions, the same criticism remains. Of course, there is still moral responsibility. He impacted the group negatively and hurt his fans. A wise decision from SM Entertainment regarding Lucas’s return is necessary.
