SEVENTEEN, TXT and NewJeans in top 10 of IFPI’s Global Artist Chart 2023 “HYBE’s power”

3 groups under HYBE Labels made it to the Top 10 of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI)’s “Global Artist Chart”

According to the “Global Artist Chart 2023” released on the IFPI’s official website on Feb 21st (local time), SEVENTEEN of Pledis Entertainment ranked second after Taylor Swift, making them the highest-ranking K-pop artist. TXT from Big Hit Music and NewJeans from ADOR secured the 7th and 8th spots, respectively, confirming their expanded global influence and growth trajectory.

With over 8,000 record labels worldwide as members, IFPI annually releases a list summarizing trends in the music industry. Among these, the Global Artist Chart is considered one of the objective indicators that gauges the artists who achieved the greatest popularity by combining physical album sales, digital song downloads and audio-video streaming figures.

SEVENTEEN, which first entered the Top 10 of this chart in 2021 at 9th place, has been climbing the ranks every year. Following their 6th place in 2022, they rose 4 steps to claim the 2nd spot this time, surpassing global pop stars like American country legend Morgan Wallen, Puerto Rican Latin pop star Bad Bunny and the 21st-century rap icon Eminem.

SEVENTEEN solidified their position as the top K-pop group by achieving a record-breaking cumulative album sales of over 16 million copies last year. They competed fiercely with mini-albums “FML” and “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN”, achieving a career high. The team’s unique narrative of “unyielding energy even in extreme situations” has only grown stronger with each album.

TXT and NewJeans made their first entry into this chart since their debut. Both groups achieved outstanding results last year.

Last year, TXT proved their strong popularity in the American market by heading straight to the top of the “Billboard 200” with their 5th mini album “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION”. They became the first K-pop group to headline the large-scale music festival “Lollapalooza Chicago” and were also invited to perform at the “2023 MTV Video Music Awards”.

NewJeans caused a global sensation and set several records. Their second EP “Get Up” reached the top of the “Billboard 200” and placed five songs (OMG, Ditto, Super Shy, ETA, Cool With You) on the main single chart “Hot 100”. “Get Up” was ranked as the fifth best-selling physical album in the United States last year, the highest among K-pop female artists and second only to Taylor Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” among all female artists. They also received awards at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) in the shortest period (1 year and 4 months) after debut among K-pop artists.

Evaluation suggests that HYBE Labels artists are not only raising the status of K-pop but also changing the landscape of the global music market. HYBE ensures the independence and autonomy of each label (Big Hit Music, Belift Lab, Source Music, Pledis Entertainment, KOZ Entertainment, ADOR), supporting the creation of high-quality music and diverse content continuously. The infrastructure backed by a multi-label unique creation system and ideas has led to the creation of distinctive mega-hit songs for each group, enhancing the potential for the birth of super IPs and shining a light on the virtuous cycle structure that increases the probability of success.
