YG’s High-Stakes Bet: BLACKPINK Members Sign Multi-Billion Won Contracts for Team Renewal, Preparation Underway for Group Activities

It was revealed that YG Entertainment made substantial bets per member as they signed a new contract for ‘team activities’ with their biggest intellectual property (IP), BLACKPINK, last December

According to the financial supervisory service’s electronic disclosure system business report on the 22nd, YG acquired approximately 41.2 billion won as an intangible asset exclusive contract fee last year.

In December last year, YG signed a group exclusive contract for all four BLACKPINK members.

Considering the scale of the exclusive contract fee of 41.2 billion won, it is estimated that even if other IP contract cases were included, BLACKPINK members, whose value is overwhelmingly high, would have signed contracts worth tens of billions of won per person. However, it was known that the contract fees for BLACKPINK members did not exceed 10 billion won per person.

Regarding this, YG stated, “Last year, there were not only re-contracts but also new contracts for numerous IPs,” adding, “Although we cannot disclose the details of the contracts, the mentioned amount cannot be solely attributed to BLACKPINK’s contract fees.”

While BLACKPINK reunited with YG for team activities last December, all four members opted for individual endeavors.

Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo each established their own agencies, namely ODD ATLiER, LALISA, and BLISSED, respectively, while Rosé is also exploring solo activities after leaving YG.

As YG poured substantial contract fees into team activities rather than individual endeavors, it is speculated that extensive BLACKPINK activities are planned for the future.

A YG official stated, “In April, Baby Monsters will officially debut, expanding their activities vigorously, while TREASURE plans to continue their growth by expanding their activity stage beyond Japan to Asia,” and added, “Furthermore, plans for BLACKPINK’s group activities are also being prepared.”
