These celebrities are named “Icons of Hope” for the way they strongly overcame cancers to continue working
In an interview with My Daily on November 23rd, INFINITE’s Nam Woo-hyun confessed, “I was not feeling well and underwent a major surgery earlier this year”, revealing that he fought rare cancer called “GIST (Gastrointestinal stromal tumor)”. He cautiously said, “Fortunately, I recovered quickly and can continue working”, adding, “I think fans will be very worried”.
The male singer shared, “I felt sick after completing my fanmeeting earlier this year. I underwent surgery and moved to a new company. It was a very hard time. The surgery required an incision of about 15cm to 20cm on my stomach, so there is still a big scar. I need to get examinations next year to confirm that I’m recovering. The scar will be there for the rest of my life but I’m glad the surgery went well”, adding “I hope everyone always stays healthy”.
Nam Woo-hyun released his first full album “WHITREE” on November 28th. He decided to continue doing activities because he wanted to convey “hope” through his music.
In August, Yoon Do-hyun, a member of the rock band YB, made a confession on his SNS, saying “I’ve gained enough courage to tell you this. In a medical checkup after practicing for a musical in 2021, I was told that I got cancer”.
Revealing that he was fighting rare cancer Lymphoma, Yoon Do-hyun said, “I was very shocked and worried. But then I decided to accept it and receive treatment. I went to the hospital every morning for a month after receiving radiation therapy.” He continued, “Two days ago, I received the good news that I have finally been cured after three years of fighting cancer.”
Yoon Do-hyun recalled his struggles and worries during the past three years, expressed happiness after getting rid of cancer, and delivered a message of hope to everyone.
Actor Kim Woo-bin was diagnosed with Nasopharynx cancer, which is also a rare cancer, in 2017. After spending a three-year hiatus to fight cancer, he completely recovered and appeared in public for the first time at the 2019 Blue Dragon Film Awards. Afterward, the actor has been active in dramas, movies, and entertainment programs.
Kim Woo-bin even enjoyed overseas trips with his girlfriend Shin Min-ah, who has always accompanied him to the hospital and taken good care of him throughout his hard time due to cancer.
In an interview with My Daily in May, Kim Woo-bin mentioned his current health condition, saying “After I resumed activities, many people were worried about me. I’m healthy physically. The doctor also said that my body was even better than before.”
