On May 27, Sohu reported that actor Liu Jin, who played a supporting role in the film “A Portrait Of Jianghu: Bad Guys,” revealed that the production company still owes him 16,000 Chinese yuan (2,200 USD) in wages. Additionally, Liu Jin confirmed that lead actress Mao Xiaotong was also a victim of unpaid fees from the same production team.
Mao Xiaotong was promised a salary of 12.5 million Chinese yuan (approx 1.7 million USD) for her leading role. However, upon completing the film, she was not paid. In 2021, the actress sued the film’s production company, Yin Bai Nian, represented by Wang, to claim her money.
The court ruled in favor of Mao Xiaotong, ordering Yin Bai Nian to pay the overdue salary plus a late fee of 2.5 million yuan (approx 345,000 USD). However, Wang stated that the company could not provide assets to enforce the judgment. To date, seven years later, Mao Xiaotong has not received the total compensation of 15 million Chinese yuan (over 2 million USD).

Mao Xiaotong, born in 1988, rose to fame through the classic palace drama “Empresses in the Palace.” She later played supporting roles in several notable projects such as “The Magic Blade,” “The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,” “The Romance of the Condor Heroes”, “Love Yunge from the Desert,” “Love O2O,” “The Princess Weiyoung,” “Nothing But Thirty,” and “The Bond”.
She is known for her natural acting and is considered a talented actress. Her ability to deliver lines has been highly praised by the public.
Currently, Mao Xiaotong is playing a supporting role as the Northern Qi Princess in “Joy of Life 2.” Despite her limited screen time, she has successfully portrayed an innocent, kind-hearted princess with a dignified demeanor. The love story between the Northern Qi Princess and the First Prince of Qing Kingdom is one of the factors attracting viewers.

Mao Xiaotong has a remarkably clean private life, which is rare in the Chinese entertainment industry. She had a tragic start to life as her father, who favored sons over daughters, wanted to throw her into the trash. Her parents divorced, and she was raised by her mother. Her father later sought her out to extort money, threatening to expose her as an ungrateful daughter if she refused to comply.
Additionally, Mao Xiaotong once caught her boyfriend, actor Chen Xiang, cheating. Despite staying silent to protect his reputation, Chen Xiang continuously defamed her on various entertainment shows. Ultimately, Mao Xiaotong had to release evidence of his infidelity to clear her name.
