After promoting their E.P. “Whiplash” and the title track of the same name, aespa kicked off their “Synk: Parallel Line” tour, visiting several destinations across Europe and the U.S. 

During the concert in Kent, a city in Washington, USA on January 28th, a moment between members Winter and Ningning caught attention and sparked controversy on social media.

Specifically, when the group reached the center of the stadium stage, all the members took off their outer skirts and tossed them aside as rehearsed. However, some noticed that Winter might have accidentally thrown her skirt directly into Ningning’s face. Fortunately, the Chinese member quickly caught it and handled the situation smoothly.

What’s noteworthy is that after tossing the skirt, Winter smiled and continued confidently, which sparked a divided reaction online. Some criticized her for being unprofessional, pointing out that she didn’t check on Ningning, while others defended her, explaining that it was a choreographed move and that tossing the skirt was necessary to adhere to the strict timeline.

In the following concert, Winter adjusted by walking backward to prevent a repeat of the mishap. Fans clarified that her smile was a playful teasing moment with Ningning. Some netizens defended Winter, saying, “Actually, Winter threw the skirt towards Ningning, but Ningning caught it, which is why they were laughing,” or “It was just an accident. On the second night, Winter walked backward to avoid it.” 

However, Ningning’s Chinese fanbase still expressed dissatisfaction, leading to criticism and from them.
