An Sung-il, Sued by FIFTY FIFTY’s Keena for Document Forgery, Receives ‘No Charges’ Ruling
On May 29, The Givers announced that the Seoul Gangnam Police Station determined there was “insufficient evidence to prove the crime,” issuing a non-indictment (no charges) decision.
Keena had filed a lawsuit against An Sung-il last year, alleging her signature was used without consent on copyright registration documents for FIFTY FIFTY’s global hit song Cupid.
The Givers stated, “The police recognized that The Givers, under a service contract with ATTRAKT, comprehensively managed administrative tasks for FIFTY FIFTY’s music activities. Thus, it was deemed reasonable to conclude that the complainant (Keena) had broadly delegated document signing authority to the defendant (An Sung-il).”
Keena’s agency, ATTRAKT, expressed strong opposition to the ruling, calling it “difficult to understand.” They released a recording in which An Sung-il allegedly says to Keena, “Your signature wasn’t done by you, right?”
ATTRAKT declared, “We will continue to respond to uphold the truth and protect artists’ rights, urging reinvestigation and legal accountability based on all evidence.”
As the dispute continues to unfold, the contrasting stances of The Givers and ATTRAKT have fueled further public interest and debate. While the police have closed the case for now, ATTRAKT’s push for reinvestigation suggests the legal battle may be far from over.
