Career

Dominance in the Adult Video Industry (2007–2020)

Asuka Kirara made her official debut in the AV industry in December 2007 with the release of Miracle Big Tits for the studio H.M.P.. Her impact was immediate. In March 2009, she won both the Actress Award and the HD Award at the prestigious SKY PerfecTV! Adult Broadcasting Awards, accolades that cemented her status as a rising star. This early success precipitated a series of strategic moves to top-tier studios, a clear indicator of her growing market value. In September 2009, she transitioned to Prestige, and later, in July 2013, she made a highly publicized move to S1 No. 1 Style, one of the industry’s leading labels.

Throughout her tenure, Kirara was noted for her professionalism, acting ability, and remarkable longevity in an industry known for its high turnover rate. She built a reputation as a reliable and popular performer, releasing a prolific number of works, estimated to be over 446 titles, including both solo and collaborative projects. After a two-year hiatus from filming new content, she officially announced her retirement from the AV industry on February 4, 2020. This announcement was not an end but a strategic culmination. By this point, she had already spent nearly a decade building her mainstream profile, and the official retirement was a calculated public relations move to formally shed the “AV actress” label, making her a more “brand-safe” figure for a wider range of commercial endorsements and business ventures.

Crossing Over – The Mainstream Breakthrough

Parallel to her AV career, Kirara actively pursued opportunities in mainstream entertainment, a crossover that began as early as 2010. Her efforts were multifaceted, spanning film, television, and music.

Her mainstream acting debut came in the Iron Girl film series, where she played the lead role of Kurisu Saotome. The trilogy, which includes Iron Girl (2012), Iron Girl: Ultimate Weapon (2015), and Iron Girl: Final Wars (2019), established her as a viable actress in the B-movie action genre. She also appeared in other films, such as the

Step Up Love Story series (2011-2012) and Female Prisoner No. 701: Sasori (2011).

On television, she took on roles in several dramas, including Jôô 3: Special Edition (2010), Detective Anonymous (2012). These roles, while not always in blockbuster productions, were crucial in familiarizing mainstream audiences with her face and name outside the context of her AV work.

In 2015, Kirara joined the second generation of the idol group Ebisu Muscats, a pop group composed primarily of AV actresses and gravure idols. She was named the group’s fourth leader in December 2015 and was a prominent member, appearing on their late-night variety shows like Muscats Night and Muscats Night Fever. This experience allowed her to showcase a different side of her personality—playful, sometimes clumsy (earning her the nickname “Ponkotsu Leader”), and skilled in the art of variety entertainment. She also released solo music, including the single “Aishiteruyo” in 2016.

The Entrepreneurial Empire

The most significant component of Kirara’s post-AV career is her emergence as a formidable entrepreneur. She has successfully launched multiple brands in the fashion and beauty sectors, leveraging her carefully cultivated image and massive social media following to build a profitable business empire.

  • whip❤︎bunny: This was her first major brand, focusing on lingerie, apparel, and swimwear. The brand’s aesthetic—a blend of cute and sexy—directly catered to the fanbase she had built over the years. It represented a direct monetization of her public persona and served as the foundation for her future business ventures.
  • Linslus: Launched in June 2024, Linslus marks a strategic evolution of her brand portfolio. This high-end dress line, with a name derived from a Swedish-inspired neologism meaning “to give the aesthetic sense to want to be photographed forever,” targets a more mature and affluent demographic. With pieces priced significantly higher than her previous offerings, Linslus is designed for special occasions like parties and formal dates, signaling a move into the luxury market. This brand diversification reflects an astute understanding of her audience, many of whom have grown up with her and now have greater purchasing power and different lifestyle needs.
  • KISSHADA: In the highly competitive beauty market, Kirara launched her own skincare brand, KISSHADA. The brand’s slogan, “Achieve your best-ever #KiraraSkin anytime,” directly links the product’s efficacy to her own famously flawless complexion, a powerful marketing tool that leverages her status as a beauty icon.
  • AIWISH: The name “AIWISH” has appeared in web server log files, suggesting it may be a planned or past lingerie brand venture. However, with no official website or product launches confirmed in the available research, its status remains unverified.
  • Digital Presence: Central to her entrepreneurial success is her savvy use of social media and her YouTube channel, “KIRALAND”. With over 303,000 subscribers, her channel features a mix of vlogs, beauty tutorials, and collaborations, serving as a powerful platform to promote her brands and engage directly with her fanbase.

Asuka Kirara was born Konno Eri (紺野 こんの 衣里 えり) on October 2, 1988. Before her debut, Kirara worked as a hostess in a kyabakura (hostess club) in Roppongi, a district in Tokyo renowned for its vibrant nightlife and high-end entertainment venues. Romantic History

Kirara’s most prominent public relationship has been with Japanese YouTuber Hirokawa “Hirok” Ryu. Their relationship became public knowledge after they appeared together at the Kansai Collection fashion event in 2023, where they cosplayed as characters from an anime series. Hirok, who is 12 years younger than Kirara and has publicly disclosed his intellectual disability, received widespread support for his openness. Kirara has spoken supportively of him, stating that his dream of walking the runway was also her dream. This relationship has been viewed as progressive and challenges typical celebrity romance narratives.

Prior to this, Kirara was linked to other public figures, most notably Inoo Kei of the popular Japanese idol group Hey! Say! JUMP. The two were reportedly seen together in Singapore nearly a decade ago, but their respective agencies denied any romantic involvement, stating the meeting was coincidental.

Controversies and Incidents

The Persona of “Plastic Beauty”

Throughout her career, Kirara has been open about her use of cosmetic surgery. This has become an integral part of her public persona, earning her nicknames such as “five-speed transformation” and making her a subject of fascination. Rather than being a point of shame, she has masterfully controlled this narrative. Her transformation culminated in her being ranked #1 in a 2018.

The Joo Hak-nyeon Scandal (2025)

The incident began on June 18, 2025, when Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun and Korean media outlets reported that Joo Hak-nyeon had been spotted in a private meeting with Kirara at a bar in Roppongi, Tokyo, on the night of May 29. Reports described the two as being physically close, with photos showing them hugging and Kirara resting her chin on his shoulder.

The fallout for Joo Hak-nyeon was swift and severe, highlighting the starkly different standards of the K-pop industry. His agency, One Hundred Label, initially announced he would be taking a temporary hiatus for “personal reasons”. However, within hours of the reports detailing his meeting with Kirara, the agency issued a second statement confirming his permanent removal from THE BOYZ and the termination of his exclusive contract. The agency cited a “loss of trust” and stated the decision was an “inevitable measure to protect the members of THE BOYZ and the group as a whole”.

The controversy escalated dramatically when subsequent reports from media outlet Tenasia alleged that the meeting involved prostitution, claiming that Joo Hak-nyeon had paid Kirara for sex. This led to an individual filing a police report against Hak-nyeon at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, accusing him of violating South Korea’s strict prostitution laws, which apply to citizens extraterritorially. Joo Hak-nyeon vehemently denied these allegations in a handwritten letter posted to his Instagram, admitting he was at the gathering but stating, “I want to state that it is completely false that I have ever engaged in prostitution or any illegal activity as reported”. Kirara Asuka and her management have not issued any public statements on the matter.
