Singer BIBI has firmly denied rumors suggesting that her song “Sweet Sorrow of Mother” is based on personal experience, addressing the controversy head-on.

On March 12, a video titled “Can we even upload this? Spicy chat with the unstoppable BIBI | Star! Cooking SHOW | (G)I-DLE Soyeon” was uploaded to the YouTube channel Pixid. In the episode, BIBI appeared as a guest alongside host (G)I-DLE Soyeon, engaging in an open conversation about music, creativity, and the misconceptions surrounding artists and their work. The two singers shared their thoughts on the inspiration behind their songs and the public’s tendency to interpret lyrics as autobiographical.

As the discussion turned to songwriting, Jeon Soyeon asked BIBI about the inspiration behind “Sweet Sorrow of Mother.” The question prompted BIBI to address the ongoing speculation about the song’s meaning, particularly rumors suggesting that it was based on her personal experiences. With a mix of frustration and amusement, she responded, “A lot of people have been saying, ‘Did she actually have an affair?’ But seriously, do you think I would? Why would I ever go for a man who already has a woman?” Her statement made it clear that the song was purely a creative work rather than a reflection of her own life.

Jeon Soyeon nodded in agreement, sharing a similar experience regarding her own music. She added, “Our song ‘Wife’ has lyrics with a bit of a sensual vibe, and I’ve also been asked a lot whether it’s based on my own experience.” The two artists acknowledged the challenges of having their work constantly scrutinized by the public, with many assuming that every song must be rooted in reality.

BIBI then elaborated on her perspective regarding artistic expression, emphasizing that musicians should not be confined to writing only about personal experiences. She explained, “Think about it—when an actor plays a serial killer in a movie, no one assumes they actually killed someone in real life. So why can’t musicians write about certain themes without it being taken literally? Shouldn’t we be allowed to explore different topics in our music? We don’t have to experience something firsthand to write about it.”

Through their conversation, BIBI and (G)I-DLE Soyeon highlighted a common struggle faced by many artists – the expectation that their creative work must always reflect their real lives. They both defended the importance of artistic freedom, calling for a broader understanding of songwriting as a form of storytelling rather than mere personal confession.
