Big Hit Music revises application criteria for BTS Jin’s offline event amid controversy
On the 2nd, Big Hit Music, the agency of the group BTS, announced through a notice on the fan communication platform Weverse that it would revise the offline event application criteria for member Jin.
Big Hit Music stated, “The application criteria for the ‘2024 FESTA’ Jin offline event will be changed,” and added, “We apologize for the previous unclear notice and for not setting detailed application criteria in advance.”
Previously, Big Hit Music had posted an application guide for the BTS Jin discharge commemoration ‘2024 FESTA’ offline event. It was announced that Jin would personally conduct a hugging session at the event, generating much anticipation among fans.
However, the application criteria announced alongside the event became a subject of controversy among fans.
The original application target included customers who had purchased and completed applications for historical albums (including solo albums) starting with ‘Proof,’ released in June 2022, through Weverse Shop during the application period. The system was such that the more albums one purchased, the higher their chances of being selected, as each album order automatically entered the purchaser into the drawing.
Many fans who had already purchased albums before the application period raised issues on various social media platforms, including X, saying, “Are we supposed to buy the albums again within the application period even though we already purchased them?” and “Is this just a tactic to boost album sales?”
In response to the growing criticism, Big Hit Music re-announced, “We plan to revise the application criteria to consider both those who have applied for the offline event through the Weverse Shop today (June 2) and those who have a history of purchasing albums before the announcement.”
Additionally, they stated, “We will do our best to ensure that Jin’s sentiments are well conveyed to the fans through this event,” and added, “We apologize once again for the inconvenience caused to the fans.”
BTS Jin’s ‘2024 FESTA’ offline event is scheduled to take place on the 13th at Jamsil Indoor Stadium within Jamsil Sports Complex, and will be divided into two parts: the first part, which includes the hugging session, and the second part, which will feature various appearances of Jin that fans have been eagerly waiting for.
