On November 23 at 3 PM, the second chapter of the “2024 MAMA AWARDS” was held at Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan.
Host Kim Tae-ri appeared on stage and said, “It truly feels like this is MAMA,” and “Music may not be something you can touch, but it is real, and although it is not visible, it exists in time.”
She continued, “I have learned through this work how great the power of music, which transcends time, is. Through music, different worlds constantly combine and are reborn in new ways. For a long time, we have listened to this artist’s music and enjoyed the stage. Now, the stage of a cultural icon who led the era of K-pop, cheered by the whole world, will unfold,” introducing G-Dragon’s performance.
G-Dragon‘s much-anticipated stage appearance, which had generated buzz even before the show, marked his first performance at “MAMA” since 2015.
Opening with an intro of his hit song “Untitled, 2014”, the silhouette of G-Dragon was projected, and as the track played, his figure was revealed beneath the stage, causing the audience to erupt in cheers.
He performed his newly released track “POWER”, which came out on October 31 after a hiatus of seven years and four months. Dressed in a striking pink outfit adorned with a crown, G-Dragon exuded a commanding presence, captivating the audience with his enduring star power. At the end of “POWER,” G-Dragon winked at the camera, clearly enjoying the stage.
Next, the number “88” appeared on the stage, and the intro to “HOME SWEET HOME” played. A video of G-Dragon from his childhood, when he was active as part of “Little Roora,” was shown on the big screen, and G-Dragon continued with a meaningful performance, pointing to his younger self.
Then, Taeyang and Daesung took the stage. The surprise appearances of Taeyang and Daesung on stage sent the crowd into a frenzy. SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi was so taken aback that he covered his mouth in shock, while BIBI was seen clutching her head, seemingly overwhelmed. Even host Kim Tae-ri couldn’t hide her amazement.
The trio later returned to the stage to perform BIGBANG’s iconic hits “Bang Bang Bang” and “Fantastic Baby”, engaging the audience and fellow artists alike. Their dynamic performance reaffirmed BIGBANG’s timeless presence and legendary status in the music industry.
Notably, G-Dragon, Daesung and Taeyang also didn’t sing the part of T.O.P in “Bang Bang Bang” and “Fantastic Baby”, which really shows their hope for his return.
