Rosé Shares Struggles Amid “APT.” Success: “Reading Hate Comments Until 5 AM”

On the November 29 broadcast of KBS 2TV’s “The Seasons – Lee Young-ji’s Rainbow,” BLACKPINK Rosé shared various stories, including her experience working on her music.
On this day, Rosé passionately performed “APT.” with Lee Young-ji and explained why she appeared on this show. She said, “I thought Lee Young-ji would do well, and I was a fan.” She continued, “I was invited to the BLACKPINK party and met her. When I said it was nice to meet her, I remember worrying that I might have made her uncomfortable because I’m shyer than I expected.”
Rosé then shared the story behind the creation of “APT.”. She said, “The apartment drinking game got such a good reaction, so we thought it would be fun to make a song out of it. It was a year ago, and I didn’t expect it to be this well-received.”
Regarding her collaboration with Bruno Mars, Rosé said, “I asked for three song suggestions, but people around me told me not to send “APT.”. I secretly included it and sent it, and he accepted it, saying it sounded like it would be fun. I’m also a perfectionist, but Bruno Mars is even more so. He has such a vision, and I was in awe watching him. In reality, he’s a bit of a tsundere.”

Rosé revealed the reason she dreamed of becoming a singer, “It was after becoming a trainee.” She explained, “I started thinking of singing as my dream when I became a trainee. Before coming to Korea, I grew up in Australia and couldn’t say I wanted to be a singer, but after becoming a trainee, I thought, ‘I have to do this no matter what.’ My parents were the ones who first suggested the audition.”
Rosé’s upcoming first full-length album, “rosie”, will be released on December 6 and consists of 12 tracks. Rosé participated in writing and composing all of the songs, sharing her more honest and intimate stories. She expressed, “These are not necessarily beautiful stories from my twenties, but they are the struggles I’ve gone through. I hope they offer comfort and empathy to people.”
Rosé explained the story behind “number one girl,” saying, “After the BLACKPINK tour ended, I was at a point where I had to figure out what to do next. I felt rushed, and although I was trying hard, I felt like I had become lazy. I started spending all night on the internet, falling into a negative space. I saw some hateful comments and, being human, I didn’t want to admit it. I made myself suffer alone.” She continued, “That’s when I wanted to write a brutally honest song, and that’s how ‘number one girl’ came about.”
She said, “After writing that song, I felt relieved. It was the first time I felt the release of everything I had been holding inside, and I became addicted to it. I spent the whole year in the studio.”
