The status of BLACKPINK’s full-group contract with YG has been announced
On December 6th, YG Entertainment officially announced, “After careful discussions and building strong trust, we have signed an exclusive contract with BLACKPINK for group activities.”
This follows lengthy negotiations after the expiration of BLACKPINK’s previous 7-year contract in August.
This signifies that BLACKPINK is set to release a new album and embark on a world tour. However, specific details regarding the renewed contract’s terms and duration have not been disclosed.
This contract has been signed exclusively for group activities for now. Regarding individual activities, a YG official stated, “Individual contracts are still under discussion.“
YG’s executive producer Yang Hyun-suk expressed, “Moving forward, BLACKPINK, as not only our agency’s artist but also as K-pop’s representative, will make even more dazzling contributions to the global music market. We will exert our best efforts to support their journey, sending unwavering support and trust in their endeavors.“
BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 and has about 92.1 million subscribers on their official YouTube channel, ranking first among male and female artists worldwide. Their album “Born Pink”, released in September 2022, topped Billboard’s main album chart “Billboard 200”. Over the past year, through 66 shows in 34 cities worldwide, they drew a total of 1.8 million audiences, showcasing the highest ticket power among K-pop girl groups.
