BLACKPINK’s Jennie Recalls Iconic Moment of Removing Clothes on Stage: Most Memorable in Her Career

Recently, BLACKPINK’s Jennie officially became the cover model for the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar US. Being the cover star of such an important issue of one of the world’s biggest fashion magazines helps Jennie set yet another difficult-to-surpass K-pop record. This is also part of her promotional activities for her upcoming solo debut album, set to be released in October.
In an interview video shared by Harper’s Bazaar US, Jennie reflected on her career journey by selecting her most iconic outfits. Jennie drew attention as she confidently discussed various moments in her career, even those where she flaunted her figure in revealing attires.

Particular, Jennie recapped her looks from performances such as her debut stage with “Boombayah,” her solo stage for “SOLO,” BLACKPINK’s first appearance at the VMAs, and her latest appearance at the Met Gala. Notably, she mentioned the iconic moment of taking off her shirt and breaking her innocent image during a legendary “SOLO” stage.
In November 2018, Jennie officially debuted as a solo artist with the single “SOLO.” As the first BLACKPINK member to promote solo, Jennie shook up the K-pop scene with just one song. At that time, she faced mixed reactions, with netizens debating whether YG was giving her too much favoritism, even dubbing her “YG’s princess.”
From a controversial nickname, Jennie turned “YG’s princess” into an iconic label, proving her undeniable impact. The styling for her “SOLO” stage is one of her most famous looks. YG’s visual team helped Jennie portray a luxurious, elegant image, which has since become the standard when referring to K-pop stage fashion.

Jennie successfully popularized numerous trends, the most famous being her tube dress, off-shoulder shirt, and hairpins from her Inkigayo performance on December 2, 2018.
During one performance, Jennie had a defining moment when she dramatically removed her shirt, leaving only her sleeveless dress and showcasing her alluring figure on stage during the “In Your Area” concert in Hong Kong in 2019.

At that time, Jennie had only been active for 3 years. This “removing clothes” moment also marked the beginning of Jennie’s bold fashion choices. Reflecting on that moment, Jennie said that she simply wanted to wear the dress again, and it has since become one of the most memorable moments of her career.
Jennie also fondly remembered BLACKPINK’s first groundbreaking appearance at the 2022 VMAs, where Lisa made K-pop history as the first female idol to win Best K-pop. Jennie and her fellow members delivered a stunning performance of “Pink Venom.” The whole experience felt like an overwhelming dream.

As BLACKPINK approaches its 8th year, both Jennie and the group have taken new directions. While each member focuses on their individual careers, BLACKPINK remains their top priority. After Lisa, Jennie is next to independently promote her projects—without YG Entertainment’s backing. Jennie is now collaborating with international label Columbia Records, further expanding her influence in the US.
