BLACKPINK’s Jisoo “It’s an Honor to Be Part of ‘Newtopia’”

Jisoo played the role of Youngju in Coupang Play’s series “Newtopia“, which concluded on March 21st. Her character was a courageous and determined woman who stood by Jaeyoon (played by Park Jeong Min) with unwavering loyalty a love that even zombies couldn’t stop driving the story’s tension all the way to the end.

Having successfully transformed into a new character through “Newtopia“, Jisoo expressed her gratitude via her agency BLISSOO, “It felt like a precious project created by so many actors and staff members coming together, and I’m honored to have been a part of it.”

In the series, Jisoo captured attention by balancing suspense and heartfelt moments, fitting for the “zom-com” (zombie + romantic comedy) genre. Her fearless action scenes delivered thrills, while her resourcefulness like using a chainsaw or a kickboard and surprising charm showcased her character’s growth and resilience, adding excitement and fun to the drama.

As the series progressed, Jisoo portrayed Youngju’s emotional depth, especially when she had to part ways with her teammates and race to find Jaeyoon alone. In Episode 7, her performance during a confrontation with villains her face quickly shifting to fear and trembling heightened the tension with intense emotional expression.

In the final Episode 8, Youngju reunites with Jaeyoon after pushing through zombies and begins a new journey as a team. Having taken down more zombies than Jaeyoon himself, she told him calmly, “You wouldn’t even imagine what I’ve been through.” Though the zombie outbreak was still ongoing, she reaffirmed her now-stronger love with a confident, hopeful smile and the unwavering promise “I’ll protect you”, delivering a touching finale.

Meanwhile, Jisoo released her new mini album “AMORTAGE” last month, achieving impressive results on global music charts with its title track “earthquake”. She is currently on her 2025 fan meeting tour “LIGHTS, LOVE, ACTION!” across seven Asian cities, including Manila, Bangkok, Tokyo, Macau, Taipei, Hong Kong and Hanoi.

She also continues her acting career, with upcoming appearances in the film “Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy” set to release in July and Netflix’s series “Boyfriend on Demand“.
