BLACKPINK’s Lisa recently made her acting debut in Season 3 of HBO’s hit series “The White Lotus” Season 3. But in a surprising revelation, creator Mike White admitted that he almost didn’t cast the global superstar — and the reason is somewhat related to Jennie.
Particularly, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, White confessed he was initially skeptical about bringing Lisa on board.
“I did not know who Lisa or BLACKPINK was,” he said, adding that all he knew was there was a “BLACKPINK girl” in “The Idol” (referring to Jennie) as well as learned that there may be security issues if Lisa was cast, so he was prepared to turn down Lisa. Specifically, Jennie’s acting in “The Idol” did not received much favorable reviews, which may have prompted Mike White’s hesitation.
However, Lisa still auditioned, and Mike White was later “blown away” by her humbleness and worth ethic, even describing the female idol as a combination between Taylor Swift and Princess Diana.
In the end, Mike White shared that Lisa’s casting is not just another celebrity cameo, but is part of a carefully curated ensemble that fits “The White Lotus” unique tone and setting, as season 3 is based in Lisa’s home country – Thailand, where her influence is immense.
