5 Years Since High School Rapper 3’s Boinata Passed Away at 17: When Legacy Lives On

It has already been five years since the tragic passing of Boinata (real name Jung Min-woo), a rising rapper who was just 17 at the time of his death on May 26, 2020.
The cause of death was never publicly disclosed, but the news sent shockwaves through the Korean hip-hop community. Fellow rappers, both close friends and collaborators, mourned the loss deeply. Some even released tribute tracks, embedding heartfelt lyrics to honor his memory.
Hailing from Bupyeong, Boinata began his journey in the local hip-hop scene, where he connected with artists like Lil Tachi, T.M, and Tendo. He trained under Unofficialboyy, a respected name in the underground scene, and later co-founded the crew Taljuninja Clan. The crew, formed in 2017, became a platform for young talents, especially among middle and high school students in Incheon’s Bupyeong area.

Among his closest connections was Lil Tachi, with whom Boinata shared not only a deep friendship but also a strong creative bond. The duo ran a SoundCloud account together and dropped two collaborative mixtapes. Following Boinata’s passing, Lil Tachi released a tribute track in remembrance of his late friend.
Boinata had also drawn attention as a contestant on Mnet’s High School Rapper 3, auditioning with his Taljuninja Clan crew. His high-pitched tone, emotional emo-rap delivery, and trap-influenced style helped him stand out as a unique talent with undeniable potential.
Even years later, Boinata’s name and music are still remembered fondly by fans and fellow artists. Though his life was cut tragically short, his impact on the youth hip-hop scene continues to resonate.
