J-Hope of BTS Achieves Grand Prize at Military Presentation Contest
This contest was organized by the army to strengthen the mental power of soldiers in celebration of Patriots and Veterans Month. Soldiers participated as speakers, sharing the rewards and values of their military service and examples of overcoming difficulties. A total of 170 participants from 16 teams, including soldiers and civilian military workers who passed preliminary rounds in their units, participated in the event.
Currently serving as an instructor at the 36th Infantry Division recruit training center in Wonju, Gangwon Province, J-Hope competed in the contest as part of a three-member team and won the grand prize. He received a commendation from the Chief of Staff, a trophy, and a prize of 500,000 KRW.
J-Hope said, “After I enlisted, I saw BTS videos and photos in the mental strength training materials that trainees learn from. Every time a trainee graduates, they tell me, ‘It was an honor to be with you.’ At those times, I feel like I’m taking a valuable first step with those who form a pillar of national security in Korea.”
He added, “Just as I contributed to the cultural development of Korea with my blood, sweat, and tears on stage, I now feel that I am contributing in a different way as a soldier. Serving as a soldier in Korea, where I can be a source of strength, is a great pride.”
During J-Hope’s presentation, phrases like “Pride of being a Korean soldier felt by Corporal Jung Ho-seok, who led K-POP to the world as BTS J-Hope,” and “BTS, Bong Joon-ho, Son Heung-min & South Korea, Let’s Go” were displayed on the stage screen.
Previously, J-Hope enlisted in the army at the recruit training center of the 36th Infantry Division in Wonju, Gangwon Province, on April 18 last year. He completed his basic military training and was selected as an instructor at the recruit training center. J-Hope is scheduled to be discharged on October 17, 2024.
