On the May 17 episode of SBS PowerFM’s “Wendy’s Young Street,” BTS Jin shared an unforgettable story about meeting Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise. According to the male idol, the meeting wasn’t just a casual encounter, as Tom Cruise recently wrapped up filming for Jin’s solo web variety show, “Run Jin,” marking a surprising crossover between K-pop and Hollywood.
In particular, Jin explained, “We didn’t do anything too big together, so I hope people don’t raise their expectations too high. However, we had a great conversation, and as a little TMI, I even gave him dinner recommendations.”
The male idol also emphasized how honored he felt, noting, “We didn’t even reach out (to Tom Cruise) first. It was actually Tom Cruise’s team that said he wanted to appear on the show. So we tailored the concept around that. I even got to watch his new movie early in theaters. It was such an exciting and surreal experience.”
The most unexpected moment, however, happened on Parents’ Day (Mother’s Day is called Parents’ Day in Korea). Here, Jin recalled, “It was Parents’ Day, so I asked him for a quick selfie to show my mom. But he told me to video call her right then. So I did, and my mom picked up, with my grandfather, aunt, and uncle all there too. I told her, ‘Say hi, this is Tom Cruise,’ and she was like, ‘What is happening right now?’ She was so happy.”
Hearing this, Red Velvet’s Wendy, who was the host, responded with amazement, saying, “Your family must have been so happy. When else would anyone get to video call with Tom Cruise? That’s peak filial piety.”
On the other hand, Jin recently released his second mini-album, “Echo,” on May 16. Meanwhile, Tom Cruise was in Korea ahead of the release of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” the eighth installment in the iconic action franchise. The film officially opened in theaters on May 17.
