Chaos at Kim Soo Hyun’s Press Conference Amid Explosive Allegations “No Questions Allowed”
The event drew hundreds of reporters, photographers and video crews, turning the venue into a chaotic scene described as a “sauna” due to the tightly packed crowd. Media personnel began arriving early in the morning and were allowed entry an hour before the event began, following an orderly registration process.
The press conference was also attended by lawyer Kim Jong Bok of LKB & Partners, representing Kim Soo Hyun’s agency Gold Medalist. However, despite the gravity of the situation, the agency’s CEO Ahn Sung Soo took the microphone before the event and reiterated that there would be no Q&A session. He stated firmly “As previously announced, there will be no separate time for questions”, drawing criticism for staging what many have called a “one-sided briefing”.
The allegations surrounding Kim Soo Hyun have intensified in recent weeks. The family of the late Kim Sae Ron accused him of being in a six-year relationship with her beginning in 2015, when she was just a middle school student. They further claimed that, after she left his agency, Gold Medalist pressured her to repay ₩700 million KRW in damages from her DUI accident, causing her significant psychological distress.
Initially, Kim Soo Hyun’s side denied any romantic involvement, but later reversed their stance, admitting to dating Kim Sae Ron from summer 2019 to fall 2020, after she had reached legal adulthood. However, controversy surged again when Kim Sae Ron’s family released KakaoTalk messages allegedly exchanged when she was just 16, containing affectionate and suggestive language from Kim Soo Hyun.
Adding to the storm, the older brother of the late singer-actress Sulli demanded explanations from Kim Soo Hyun and “Real” (2017) director Lee Sarang (now known as Lee Robe). He alleged that Sulli was pressured into filming explicit scenes, despite a body double being available on set.
As the controversy grows and media attention intensifies, many are questioning the effectiveness and sincerity of a press conference that bars direct questioning, especially when the actor faces such serious and sensitive allegations. The overwhelming turnout and public interest reflect not only the magnitude of the issue but also the pressure on Kim Soo Hyun to deliver a clear and honest explanation—something critics argue was not accomplished without open dialogue.
