On July 11th, Seoul Dongdaemun Police Station revealed that they have been tracking the person who made a post on the online community DC Inside at 9:34 p.m. on the 9th expressing their desire to attack the daughter of YouTuber ChimChakMan with a knife. The police stated, “We are still investigating and working hard on identifying that person”.
ChimChakMan is determined to take all legal measures against shocking threats against his minor daughter. His legal representative stated, “On July 9th, a message containing rape and murder threats against ChimChakMan’s child was posted in an online community”, adding “The National Police Agency received a report regarding a post that specified a planned date for the crime and was urgently dispatched to the residence. The investigative agency has launched an investigation into the person who posted the message.”
They continued, “Through his legal representative, ChimChakMan requested a prompt and intense investigation as well as personal protection from the investigative agency. As soon as the identity of the post’s author is revealed, we will take strict legal action”, adding “Over the past few years, malicious comments and posts about families at serious levels that are hard to accept socially have continuously been written and distributed in online communities. There have recently been threats to the personal safety of ChimChakMan’s child, and this is an intolerable criminal act”.
Lastly, they emphasized, “ChimChakMan has entrusted us to take strong legal responses to malicious acts against his family in the future without leniency or agreement”.
Meanwhile, NewJeans also received a stabbing threat once. On June 24th, a post titled “I bought it to use at NewJeans concert” drew attention in an online community. It shocked many people by including a photo of a knife with the message, “When NewJeans get off their car, I’ll stab them one by one”.
Coincidentally, ChimChakMan is known to have a special relationship with NewJeans. The YouTuber not only appeared in the girl group’s music video but also submitted a petition opposing the dismissal of ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.
ChimChakMan made his debut as a webtoon writer in 2009 then expanded his activities to YouTube broadcasting. He currently has 2.52 million YouTube subscribers.
