Comedian Lee Soo-ji’s Parody Causes Han Ga-in To Be Criticized, Agency Refuses Responsibility
Last month, comedian Lee Soo-ji released on her personal YouTube channel a video in which she transformed into “Jamie Mom” Lee Soo-dam, who lives in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul – an area known for the high competitiveness in private education, and parodied the daily life of parents living in Gangnam, known as “Daechi Moms”. In particular, the female comedians drew attention by imitating real “Daechi Moms” with realistic transformations, such as wearing luxury padded jackets and bags while taking children to and from academies.

After this parody was uploaded, many viewers began to pour malicious comments targeting parents living in Gangnam, and the criticism even spread to Han Ga-in.

In October last year, Han Ga-in uploaded a Vlog on her channel showing herself driving her daughter to and from school. Some netizens pointed out similarities between Lee Su-ji’s parody and Han Ga-in’s real-life Vlog and left comments, such as “I came here after watching Lee Su-ji’s video“.

Calling the actress a “helicopter mom”, many believe that Han Ga-in is forcing her daughter to study for competition and achievements and criticized the excessive education method she chose.

Amid controversy, Han Ga-in eventually switched her Vlog video to private. However, her reaction caused netizens to raise suspicion that Lee Soo-ji’s parody was targeting Han Ga-in. She also clarified misunderstandings regarding the education method she selected for her children.

In this regard, Lee Soo-ji’s agency iHQ stated, “Lee Soo-ji runs the YouTube channel on her own, and the agency has nothing to do with it. Our agency would know if it were official content produced by us, but since it’s a personal project that she filmed independently, we know nothing about the details.”
Meanwhile, Lee Soo-ji is known for her parody content on YouTube and SNS. Attention is on how the female comedian will respond regarding the controversy over her ‘Daechi Mom’ video,
