On May 19, the Los Angeles-based R&B duo Emotional Oranges posted a photo of NewJeans’ Danielle on their official international account.

The caption included symbolic emojis—a bunny (NewJeans) and an orange (Emotional Oranges)—along with the words: “Just give us a some time guys. It’s coming.”

The post immediately raised eyebrows, as all members of NewJeans are currently on hiatus due to their high-profile dispute with ADOR. Since November 2024, the group has been entangled in a legal fight after announcing plans to terminate their contracts and pursue independent activities under the brand “NJZ,” leaving the members in limbo.

While the Emotional Oranges post hinted at a possible collaboration or solo release involving Danielle, it was quickly deleted, deepening the mystery. Fans are now speculating whether the removal was due to contractual restrictions, premature marketing, or internal pressure from ADOR.

Clarification from Emotional Oranges

On May 21, Emotional Oranges clarified the situation on Instagram, stating that the collaboration rumor was a misunderstanding.

guys there’s no dani collab i was just helping produce a song for livvie 😭😭!! sorry if we caused any confusion but that genuinely wasn’t the intention. hope you’re enjoying orenjii & we can’t wait to see you on tour soon.

Emotional Oranges clarified that their involvement was limited to assisting with a song by Olivia Marsh, who is Danielle’s older sister, and emphasized that a collaboration with Danielle was never intended. They expressed regret over the confusion and apologized for any misunderstanding.

The statement was accompanied by a photo of the duo posing with both Danielle and Olivia Marsh—an image that had previously fueled speculation about a joint project.

Netizens reaction to this:

  • It’s not even something a member posted, we don’t know when (or if) it’ll be released, we don’t even know if ADOR was involved, or what exactly was done — yet some people are already attacking her over activities that didn’t even happen. Maybe it’s time to reflect on whether you’re just being swept up in ‘criticize-everything’ dopamine.
  • Just hurry up and reach an agreement with ADOR. If going back and promoting under them feels uncomfortable, then just give them a fixed cut of your earnings during the contract period and continue your activities. Settle it already.
  • We just have to wait for ADOR’s official statement.
  • LOL, the journalist is just making wild guesses and ranting about whether something will happen or not.
  • If it wasn’t a collaboration through ADOR, they’ll probably have to pay a hefty penalty later.

Many were quick to note that Emotional Oranges has just released their new full-length album Orenjii on May 16. The album features high-profile collaborations with NCT’s Jaehyun, Jessie Reyez, Becky G, Anisia, and Isaiah Falls.

Founded in 2019 by Azad and Vally, Emotional Oranges is a futuristic R&B-pop duo with over 670 million streams and performances at major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. They’ve built a strong global following, including in Korea, where their House of Wonder concert sold out completely.
