On January 20, a press preview for “Dark Nuns” (directed by Kwon Hyeok-jae) was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Kwon Hyeok-jae and actors Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Yeo-bin, Lee Jin-wook and Moon Woo-jin.

“Dark Nuns” tells the story of people who undertake a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit.

In the film, Song Hye-kyo plays Sister Junia, a nun who does not hesitate to use any means necessary to save the boy in danger.

During the event, Song Hye-kyo said, “I’m very nervous. We worked hard on this film, so I hope it receives a positive response.

She shared, “It was my first time acting smoking. I had a lot of concerns. Since I don’t smoke, I had to think a lot about how to approach it. However, when considering Sister Junia, it felt like a necessary part of the role.

Song Hye-kyo added, “It’s not a good thing, but I started practicing smoking six months before filming began. The first scene starts with smoking, and it’s a very tight close-up. I didn’t want to fake it. During filming, I practiced both acting and smoking a lot.”

The actress continued, “I didn’t want to lie. Also, smokers say that they can tell if someone is smoking for real or not. I was worried that people felt that I was faking from the first scene, everything about Junia would become fake.”

“That’s why I got help from my friends who smoked, and started smoking six months before filming. It was hard at first. My throat hurt“, she also confessed.

Additionally, the actress mentioned how she initially struggled with swearing while acting, but this has changed with time.

In particular, she said while laughing, “In the past, in ‘My Brilliant Life,’ I was so bad at swearing that I received a lot of criticism for even short dialogues. I was in my early 30s at the time, but I think I’ve sworn a little more as I’ve gotten older, so it isn’t hard now.”

Meanwhile, “Dark Nuns” is set to be released on January 24.
