The Channel A program Detectives: The Trade Secret appealed to viewers for help in locating a client’s biological daughter, separated 40 years ago. Former JTBC announcer Kang Ji-young, appearing as a guest detective, expressed shock, saying, “I’m losing faith in humanity,” upon hearing a true story about a husband’s affair with a man.

In the “Detective 24/7” segment of the June 23 episode, a client’s heartbreaking request to find her daughter, sent for adoption to her uncle 40 years ago, was featured. The client became pregnant while living with her partner, but he left after conflicts before their planned marriage. Unable to register the birth due to societal stigma, she gave birth alone. Struggling financially, she entrusted her daughter to her ex-partner’s childless older brother, the child’s uncle. The client confessed, “I’ve lived my whole life as a sinner,” expressing her longing to reunite with her daughter.

The detective team tracked down the biological father, who, when shown a photo of the daughter, responded, “Who is this? I don’t know her at all…” Initially unable to recall, he later vaguely remembered but evasively said, “I couldn’t be sure she was my daughter.” Shockingly, the father’s third sister-in-law, who last had custody of the child, revealed, “No one would take her, so we left her at a police station, and I don’t know what happened after that.”

The studio was outraged, with comments like, “How could they do that to their own blood?” The father added that his family acted to “protect his younger sibling’s future,” claiming the child could be a burden, deepening the disappointment. Despite inquiries at the police station, nearby orphanages, and Seoul City Hall, the detectives could not locate the daughter, leaving a lingering sense of regret.

In the “Case Notebook” segment, a woman sought the detectives’ help, suspecting her husband was cheating with her best friend, who had been staying at their home for two months under the pretext of a water leak. The client witnessed the two embracing while asleep on the living room sofa. Investigations revealed no water leak repairs in the friend’s apartment complex, confirming her deception.

While tracking their movements, the detectives uncovered a bizarre scene: the friend obsessively followed the husband. It was revealed that the husband was having affairs with men, and the friend, aware of this, had moved into the client’s home to monitor him. When confronted, the husband admitted, “Yes, it’s true. I like men too. I realized after marriage that I prefer men.” He shamelessly added, “Isn’t it better than cheating with a woman?” shocking everyone. The friend’s concern stemmed not from friendship but from unrequited love for the husband. Defconn described the story as “the most chaotic ever,” while Kang Ji-young, stunned, said, “That this actually happened makes me lose faith in humanity.”
