Director Bong Joon-ho Reveals BLACKPINK As Favorite K-pop Group

In an interview video uploaded on the channel “BuzzFeed Celeb” on March 3rd (local time), Bong Joon-ho talked about himself and also introduced his new movie “Mickey 17”.

When asked about his favorite K-pop group, the director replied without hesitation, “It’s BLACKPINK. The group of Rosé, Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa”, proving himself as a true fan by listing the members’ names one by one.

When the staff said, “Recently, Rosé did this puppy interview”, Bong Joon-ho added, “This is such a great show and here I am ruining it. Such beautiful people were supposed to be here”.

Earlier at various events, including the press conference for the movie “Mickey 17”, director Bong Joon-ho also expressed his admiration for BLACKPINK and Rosé. He shared, “When the news about the martial law broke out, actor Mark Ruffalo contacted me asking if I was okay. I talked about this several times before, but I was actually checking how high the songs of BLACKPINK’s Rosé ranked on charts at that moment upon hearing the news. That’s why I was completely taken aback by his call”.

Meanwhile, “Mickey 17” is Bong Joon-ho’s new project 6 years after the hit movie “Parasite”. Starring famous Hollywood star Robert Pattinson as the male lead, it is an SF film based on Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey 7”.

Known as Bong Joon-ho’s comeback after a long time, “Mickey 1” gained huge attention from its production stage and topped the box office right after its premiere. The movie reportedly ranked No.1 in the box office chart with a number of cumulative viewers of about 250,000 on its first screening date, February 28th.
