Top Stars Face Massive Backlash for “Lazy, Misogynistic” Comments on “I Live Alone” About Not Doing The Dishes

In the latest episode of I Live Alone, K-pop idol Doyoung from NCT and TV personality Jun Hyun Moo found themselves at the center of public outrage after comments perceived as sexist and dismissive went viral online.

The episode, which aired recently, captured Doyoung at his parents’ home preparing a simple dish of noodles. After eating, he left his dirty dishes in the sink and sang, “If I just leave it like this, my mom will clean it up.” This comment, seemingly made in jest, drew laughter from SHINee’s Key and comedian Im Woo Il, but was met with strong criticism from Jun Hyun Moo who later doubled down on similar behavior.

Jun Hyun Moo admitted he intentionally piles up dirty dishes at home knowing his mother would clean them during visits. Despite criticism from guests like Park Na Rae, Im Woo Il, and Code Kunst, Jun Hyun Moo defended his behavior by calling his mother a “grease removal expert,” stating she cleans better than a dishwasher. Doyoung appeared to agree, intensifying the backlash.

These remarks have ignited fury across South Korean online communities, especially on theqoo, where a related post amassed over 1,100 critical comments. Netizens accused both celebrities of embodying the “Hannam” stereotype—a derogatory slang term for patriarchal Korean men with outdated views on gender roles.
Comments on theqoo:
- “The PD should protect their cast members… this should have been edited out.”
- “Is he an only child? No wonder he was raised like this.”
- “TRASH men are trending lololol.”
- “I can’t believe what I just saw.”
- “This is beyond immature.”
- “I had low expectations but this is another level…”
- “…Is this real?”
- “I can’t understand how they thought this was okay to say, let alone air”
- “But there are many moms who actually enjoy doing this..?”

Many fans expressed disappointment, stating that such attitudes undermine progress in gender equality. This incident, though seemingly trivial, underscores the continued scrutiny public figures face regarding social issues in Korea. As of now, neither Doyoung nor Jun Hyun Moo has issued an official statement responding to the criticism.
