On December 20, Shin Se Kyung’s agency, The Present Company, announced, “The perpetrator responsible for prolonged acts of cyber harassment against actress Shin Se Kyung has been apprehended through legal proceedings.”

The agency revealed, “Over the years, this perpetrator has engaged in threats, malicious defamation, dissemination of false information, and abusive language across various online platforms.”

They continued, “Legal proceedings against the perpetrator are currently ongoing. Our company remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of our artists and employees.”

They emphasized, “We will continue to respond firmly and take strong legal action without exception.”

In relation to this matter, Attorney Kim Ji Ae from Ascendant Yoolbon, representing the case, stated, “As the investigation is still ongoing, we are closely monitoring its progress. Together with the agency, we will do our utmost to prevent recurrence and protect the victim until the very end.

She added, “We hope this case demonstrates that malicious comments online can indeed be traced and that the individuals responsible will inevitably face legal consequences.”

Shin Se Kyung’s agency previously disclosed in August last year that they were pursuing criminal charges against those who consistently posted malicious comments about the actress.

In February of the same year, the agency filed complaints with the Seoul Gangnam Police Station against one unidentified individual and another unnamed person for defamation. Similarly, in October 2021, they filed complaints against 43 unnamed individuals for the same charge.

At the time, the agency noted the difficulties in identifying the accused but stated, “We are continuously working to gather additional evidence to identify the accused individuals. Even if it takes time, we will push for a thorough investigation without leniency as soon as their identities are confirmed.”
