Fans Who Attempted to Kiss BTS’s Jin Reported to the Police “Urging Severe Punishment for Sexual Harassment”

On June 14th, the Seoul Songpa Police Station announced that they had received a complaint requesting an investigation into fans who attempted to kiss Jin, accusing them of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act. The police received the complaint through e-People and are reviewing whether to proceed with a formal investigation based on the content of the complaint.

The complainant, A, explained the reason for filing the complaint through an online fan community, “An article reported that some fans attempted to sexually harass Jin by trying to kiss him during an offline fan meeting where he hugged 1,000 fans to commemorate his discharge. As a fan who regularly enjoys BTS’s music, I couldn’t help but feel outraged.“
A also urged the authorities to “immediately investigate and severely punish the fans who sexually harassed Jin for violating Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act“.

On the day after his discharge, Jin held a “hug event” at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul on June 13th, where he hugged 1,000 fans. This fan event was part of the “2024 FESTA” commemorating BTS’s 11th debut anniversary and was Jin’s first offline event since his discharge, attracting significant attention from fans.
Jin greeted fans warmly, wearing a sign that read “Hug me“. Most fans orderly hugged him and quickly moved on, but a few fans were caught on camera attempting to kiss Jin on the cheek, causing public outrage and controversy among fans.
Netizens criticized the behavior, saying, “They ruined a meaningful event“, “That is sexual harassment” and “They crossed the line.”
Meanwhile, Jin was discharged from the army on June 12th.
