Forcing Jung Woo-sung to Marry Moon Gabi for Having a Child is an Unfortunate Demand

Amid the news, criticisms against Jung Woo-sung for not marrying Moon Gabi are being labeled excessive by legal experts.
Divorce lawyer Yang So-young commented in a YouTube interview with Lee Jin-ho on Nov 25th, “We are in an era where marriage is not the default. In cases like this, unintended pregnancies happen, and conflicts may arise between wanting to continue the pregnancy and not wanting to.”
Yang explained, “It has only been disclosed that Moon Gabi decided to continue the pregnancy after learning of it. Legally, Jung Woo-sung’s responsibilities and relationships change as a result of her decision.”
Yang added, “Jung Woo-sung has obligations for upbringing and support, and the child has inheritance rights. However, it’s hard to argue that he bears additional obligations beyond these legal ones.”
Yang criticized the notion that a child’s birth necessitates marriage, “Demanding marriage just because they had a child would likely make both parties unhappy, and it could also be detrimental to the child. There’s a difference between having a child after getting married and marrying because a child was conceived.”

Yang also shared her professional experience, saying, “I’ve seen many people regret marrying just because a child was involved. It’s better to separate these issues. Not marrying does not equate to irresponsibility.”
Yang further emphasized the importance of mutual agreement in the pregnancy decision, which remains an unresolved issue.
Regarding child support, Yang projected that the amount could range between 2~3 million won per month.
Meanwhile, on Nov 24th, Jung Woo-sung’s agency Artist Company confirmed, “The child Moon Gabi revealed on SNS is indeed Jung Woo-sung’s biological child. Discussions are ongoing to determine the best way to handle the child’s upbringing. Jung Woo-sung will take full responsibility for the child.”
