Friends Shared Hearwarming Stories About Song Hye-kyo’s Kindness, “I Can Only Give You Money”
On January 10th, Kang Min-kyung’s YouTube channel uploaded a video titled “This is Song Hye-kyo’s Vlog, not mine…”.
At the beginning of the video, Kang Min-kyung explained the reason behind Song Hye-kyo’s appearance on her channel, saying “2-3 months ago, I had a meal with Hye-kyo unnie and we talked about promoting her new movie ‘Dark Nuns’.”
Following Kang Min-kyung’s introduction is Song Hye-kyo’s Vlog. The actress revealed her birthday party with close friends at home, adding “We’ve been together for 20 years… I’m tired of them”. Song Hye-kyo’s birthday party had four different kinds of cakes. While sharing talks, Song Hye-kyo’s friend said, “I’ve known Hye-kyo since she was 19 years old. I was in my 20s back then. There are many unforgettable memories. Hye-kyo decided to film director John Woo’s movie, and it was announced when she came to a film festival with the director and Jang Chen”.
They shared, “The setting had been prepared, but there was an issue between the original movie and the drama, so the director ended up giving up on the project. I wondered, ‘How should I explain this to the actress (Song Hye-kyo)?’, but all she replied was, ‘I understand you’. That evening, she called me over and gave me a bottle of champagne with a note, saying ‘Be strong unnie’. Song Hye-kyo was just 20 years old back then. Whenever unexpected problems arose, she handled them all like a senior”, expressing admiration for Song Hye-kyo
Song Hye-kyo’s stylist also confessed, “When I was younger, I lived in a gosiwon and had a hard time because I couldn’t earn enough money. One day, I received a call that my Mom was sick, so I rushed back to my hometown without telling Hye-kyo unnie. Later, I found out that there was a huge amount of money in my bank account that I could never imagined. It was deposited to my account by her manager on her behalf with a message, saying ‘Hye-kyo asked me to send it to you’. It’s not about the money, but I always remember what Hye-kyo unnie said to me back then”.
The stylist added, “She told me, ‘I’m sorry that all I can do for you now is give you money. I should be there with you. I’m so sorry that I can’t be with you when you’re having such a hard time and can only give you some money’. I cried a lot at that time”.
The Vlog continued with Song Hye-kyo preparing to film the latter part of ‘Dark Nuns’. As soon as she appeared on the set, the actress quickly switched to her acting mode and immersed herself in the scenes. She also greeted actors Lee Jin-wook and Jeon Yeo-bin. Jeon Yeo-bin asked Song Hye-kyo about her secret to maintaining connections with others for a long time. Song Hye-kyo laughed and replied, “My personality? I tend to get along well with people similar to me”.
Regarding her Vlog, Song Hye-kyo confessed, “This is the first time I’ve done a promotion for my project since ‘My Brilliant Life’. Promotional methods have changed so much, but I also wanted to try something new so I thought about appearing on Min-kyung’s YouTube channel. I even tried to persuade her. It’s been a long time since I last filmed myself back in high school days”.
When asked about her favorite projects when looking back on her filmography, Song Hye-kyo shared, “I was so happy when filming ‘That Winter The Wind Blows”. There were many difficult scenes to do as a blind character. After completing that role, I felt so thrilled, yet so lonely at the same time. Playing a blind character, I couldn’t make eye contact with my co-actors, but in the final episode, my character was able to see the faces of her beloved people after undergoing surgery. Looking at In-sung’s face felt so strange, and that kind of emotional moment naturally came to me.”
She also chose “Worlds Within” as one of her memorable projects. She said, “I feel so lucky to be able to act such a character in my 20s. ‘The Glory’ was also a great project, too. I had fun filming it. I can never forget Moon Dong-eun”.
