Recently, BIGBANG’s G-Dragon released the poster for his 2025 world tour and teased his upcoming full album, both titled “Übermensch”. However, the name of his album and world tour, alongside the poster design, has sparked criticisms.

In particular, the term “Übermensch” was created by philosopher Nietzsche, representing the idea of “ideal superior man of the future”. This term was used by Hitler and the Nazi in describing their belief in a biologically superior race.

Additionally, the color scheme utilized by G-Dragon, along the number “88” and the gothic-like font used – all coincides with previous elements utilized by the Nazi.  As a result, many netizens, particularly those on the international forum platform Reddit, express their discomfort, with some even alleging G-dragon of being pro-Nazi.

“Did nobody consider that ‘Übermensch’ was used by the Nazi party to describe the ‘Aryan race’ and is still used to this day by neo nazis? The font and colour scheme also make it look very nazi-esque. Not claiming that GD is affiliated with nazis, but it’s in very poor taste, especially for a world tour”, a netizen said, while another said, “What the actual f is this? The lettering, the colors, Übermensch theme… sorry but absolutely not”.

However, there are many who have voiced their support for G-Dragon. Specifically, a netizen who claimed to be a history teacher made several points refuting the allegations against G-Dragon.

According to this netizen, the typeface used by the Nazis was another one created to replace the font used by G-Dragon, and Hilter’s party actually hated the font used by GD so much, they banned it in 1941.

Moreover, “Übermensch” is just a term used in philosophy, not necessarily associated with the Nazi, and the number “88” is considered lucky in Korea, as well as G-Dragon’s birth number.

Therefore, it’s a bit far-fetched to assume that G-Dragon is pro-Nazi because he used the aforementioned element.
