NewJeans Praise G-Dragon & 2NE1 Stages at 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon Despite Criticisms
On December 24, the 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon took place at Inspire Arena in Yeongjongdo, Incheon.
Following the music event, NewJeans took to Instagram with a livestream, expressing their feelings about performing on stages and watching the performances of legendary senior artists G-Dragon and 2NE1.
In particular, Hyein said, “I’m so happy we were able to do it with our cool sunbaenims (seniors)”, while the rest of NewJeans started to sing to G-Dragon and 2NE1.
“Their stages were really cool — so we had a really exciting day today”, the female idol also added.
However, while 2NE1’s performance at the 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon received a lot of praise, G-Dragon’s stage actually drew a lot of criticisms, as netizens accused the male idol of having an unstable pitch, boasting barely audible live vocals, and even slurring his lyrics.
On the other hand, G-Dragon allegedly showed his support for Min Hee-jin (and NewJeans) in the past by liking Min Hee-jin’s post about her resignation from HYBE and ADOR. It seems that despite the new controversy, NewJeans is showing support for G-dragon in return.
Meanwhile, previously on April 20th, G-Dragon uploaded on his SNS account a photo of his cat. What caught the eyes of netizens was that the rabbit doll next to the cat looked similar to the rabbit merchandise of the girl group NewJeans.
Knowing G-Dragon rarely interacts with junior girl groups, netizens raised speculations over G-Dragon’s collaboration with the HYBE girl group because of this unexpected interaction. Coincidentally, both G-Dragon and NewJeans are planning for their upcoming comebacks this year.
NewJeans already announced their comeback date and Japanese debut with the first fanmeeting in Tokyo Dome in May and June. In the case of G-Dragon, he will return to the K-pop race at the end of 2024 with a new album. He is also planning to hold a world tour after releasing the album.
