Ga-in Upset Over Broadcast Ban “Problematic Lyrics Depicting Sexual Intercourse Between a Man and Woman”

On March 12, 2015, Ga-in released her fourth mini-album “Hawwah“. It featured double title tracks: “Apple” and “Paradise Lost“.

Among them, “Apple” is a song that cutely expresses the temptation of the “forbidden fruit” — something everyone has desired at least once. It conveys a message to those who know they shouldn’t, but still want to, teetering on the edge of crossing the line. Jay Park featured on the track, lending his support.
The lyrics include lines such as, “Because you say not to, I want to do it”, “Because you say I can’t have it, I want it”, “How about just one bite? Nothing will happen, right?” and “Let’s go somewhere nice, because when it’s just the two of us, I’ll transform.”

However, KBS and MBC determined that the lyrics of “Apple” depicted scenes of sexual activity between a man and woman, and thus judged the song unfit for broadcast.
Regarding this, Ga-in shared her thoughts at the album release showcase, “I thought the lyrics had a slightly risky feel, but I’m disappointed it didn’t pass the review. It’s true the lyrics ‘Because you say not to, I want to do it. Because you say I can’t have it, I want it’ express desire, but I’m still upset.”
Afterward, Ga-in’s side reapplied for review, removing the controversial parts from the lyrics. As a result, the song passed the reviews of both KBS and MBC.
Despite the lyrics controversy, “Apple” achieved strong digital chart performance. Upon release, the song swept the No.1 spots on major domestic music charts and trended on major portal sites’ real-time search rankings. On Melon’s overall weekly chart for the 3rd week of March 2015 (March 16~22), it ranked No.2 overall, showing how well-loved it was.

Meanwhile, Ga-in received a fine of 1 million KRW in 2021 for illegal use of propofol. Afterward, she halted her activities and entered a period of self-reflection. In June of last year, she appeared as a guest on KFN Radio’s “Miryo’s Freestyle” to share an update on her current status.
