G-Dragon Applauded for Subtle Yet Smart Response Amid Political Color Controversy

On May 29, G-Dragon posted a photo to his Instagram Story with the caption “Off to L.A.,” showing him on a plane awash in soft blue light.
But what caught even more attention was what came next, an image of a dark sky with a vivid red sun rising.

While he gave no explanation for the posts, netizens quickly speculated that the red-toned image was a calculated move to balance the blue hue in the previous one. In the current political climate, where even color choices are subject to scrutiny, the gesture was seen as a way to preemptively neutralize potential misinterpretation.

This response stands out in contrast to recent controversies. aespa’s Karina was criticized for wearing a red jacket marked “2” and using a rose emoji, while Beenzino faced backlash for a post captioned “World Red Di’s Day.” Both were accused of signaling political allegiances, intentionally or not.
In G-Dragon’s case, however, fans applauded the balance and subtlety. Comments included:
- “Truly seasoned.”
- “Smart move to stay away from politics.”

Still, many also expressed frustration with the current climate, saying:
- “We’re in a strange world where you can’t even post a color without being judged.”
- “Stop dragging celebrities into politics.”
This situation highlights the growing pressure on entertainers to monitor even the smallest visual details during South Korea’s 21st presidential election, where early voting took place May 29–30, and the main vote is set for June 3.
