During a director’s talk event held on April 15 in Jung-gu, Seoul, Shin discussed the careful process behind assembling the cast for Resident Playbook. “Casting was a collaborative effort between myself, the director, and the writer,” Shin said. “We’ve developed an audition process that’s efficient and helps us select truly talented actors. Go Youn-jung stood out early on.”
Go Youn-jung plays Oh Yi-young, a first-year OB-GYN resident navigating the chaotic and emotionally charged world of hospital life. Shin shared that while Go Youn-jung’s striking visuals might lead to certain assumptions, her personality defied all expectations.
“There’s often a stereotype when it comes to actresses who look like her,” he explained. “But she completely broke that mold. She’s incredibly down-to-earth. She even described her way of speaking as being like a fifth-grade boy’s. We found that so refreshing, and it made her a perfect fit for Oh Yi-young.”

Resident Playbook, which premiered on April 12, follows a group of young doctors navigating the early stages of their medical careers. As a spin-off from the hit series Hospital Playlist, the show dives into the personal and professional struggles of resident doctors as they grow into their roles.
