On June 17th, Management Soop announced through their official channel, “Since our establishment on April 19th, 2011, we have been using the name ‘Soop Entertainment’ and hold trademarks for ‘Soop Entertainment Co., Ltd.’, ‘Management Soop’ and ‘SOOP’. Recently, we discovered that AfreecaTV has changed its name to ‘Soop Co., Ltd.’ and adopted ‘SOOP’ as its corporate identity (CI).“
They continued, “AfreecaTV’s actions infringe on our trademark and trade name rights and constitute acts of confusion and unfair competition as prohibited by the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. Consequently, today, we have filed an injunction against AfreecaTV at the Seoul Central District Court to prevent further infringement.”
The agency added, “We want to clarify that events and activities using the names ‘Soop Co., Ltd.’, ‘SOOP’… have no connection with us. Please be cautious to avoid unnecessary damage.”
Previously, the real-time broadcasting platform AfreecaTV changed its name to “SOOP”.
Management Soop represents many actors, including Gong Yoo, Gong Hyo-jin, Kim Jae-wook, Seo Hyun-jin, Jeon Do-yeon, Jung Yu-mi, Nam Ji-hyun, Suzy, Nam Joo-hyuk, Kim Min-ju, Jeon Hye-jin and Lee Chun-hee.
