Goo Hye-sun Faces Backlash for Criticizing Ahn Jae-hyun’s Divorce Talk Despite Her Own Past Remarks
Goo Hye-sun criticizes ex-husband Ahn Jae-hyun for referencing their divorce on TV

In the early hours of August 8, Goo Hye-sun took to her social media to post a long message, criticizing Ahn Jae-hyun for his “cowardly” behavior of alluding to their troubled divorce on television.
“Despite our unpleasant divorce, continuing to make indirect, risky remarks that can clearly imply me—someone in the same industry—is cowardly,” she wrote.
“I hope even variety shows have a conscience. If comments made for laughs make the subject uncomfortable, they should be stopped immediately… No one has the right to mock me, the person involved, for entertainment,” she added.

Her remarks appeared to target Ahn Jae-hyun’s recent comments on KBS2’s Heart on Wheels and his YouTube content, where he lightly referenced feelings of loneliness and marriage. However, he never directly mentioned Goo Hye-sun by name.
While some fans sympathized, many pointed out Goo Hye-sun’s own long history of discussing their divorce publicly. Since 2021, she has appeared on multiple programs—Morning Forum, Soo Mi’s Mountain Cabin, Park Myung-soo’s Radio Show, and Living Together—where she openly talked about the breakup, dating, and even joked about new relationships.
These repeated and voluntary mentions of her divorce and relationships seem to directly contradict the stance she took in her recent social media post.
Adding to the controversy is the fact that Ahn Jae-hyun has largely avoided naming Goo Hye-sun in recent media appearances. His comments have been general, often focusing on his personal reflections about relationships or feeling lonely among married peers. In many cases, he skirts the topic entirely or speaks in vague terms.

Given that their divorce occurred years ago and that Ahn’s remarks have been rare and indirect, Goo Hye-sun’s post is being seen by many as overly confrontational and even hypocritical.
The final straw for many came when Goo Hye-sun said: “I hope my ex-spouse builds his own identity and succeeds without using me as material.”
This sparked a wave of backlash, with netizens pointing out the irony: during their highly publicized 2019 split, it was Ahn Jae-hyun who halted his entertainment activities, while Goo Hye-sun continued making appearances and openly discussing their relationship on air.

While she claimed discomfort over being referenced, many netizens are calling out what they see as a classic case of “naeronambul” — a Korean slang term for “it’s okay when I do it, but not when others do.”
“Isn’t this the same woman who talked about her divorce on every show she appeared on?”
“If you don’t want people talking about it, stop bringing it up yourself.”
“Ahn Jae-hyun barely said anything. This feels like unnecessary drama.”
“This is a textbook example of naeronambul.”
As the controversy unfolds, Goo Hye-sun’s remarks are drawing more criticism than support. What was intended as a call for respect and sensitivity has instead reignited debate about her own public handling of the divorce and whether she’s being fair to Ahn Jae-hyun.
