With just 10 days left until the official release of “Good Day 2025,” all eyes are on the upcoming track featuring a star-studded lineup, including G-Dragon, CL of 2NE1, DAY6, and aespa. Though the project is a remake of songs from 15–20 years ago, it emphasizes the joy of collaboration over groundbreaking experimentation.
The Star-Studded Comeback of “Good Day 2025”
The MBC program Good Day, which concluded on April 13, documented the creative journey behind the remake of “By the Moon Lighted Window” and “Telepathy,” originally by the duo City Boys.
Led by G-Dragon, the project brought together a wide range of entertainment figures from across the industry. In addition to CL, DAY6, SEVENTEEN’s BSS unit, and aespa, the lineup includes actors like Hwang Jung-min, Lee Soo-hyuk, Im Si-wan, Jung Hae-in, Kim Go-eun, and TV personalities such as Jo Se-ho, Jung Hyung-don, Defconn, Code Kunst, Hwang Kwang-hee, Kian84, Hong Jin-kyung, and chef Ahn Sung-jae.
Balancing Nostalgia with Creativity: Will “Good Day 2025” Deliver?
The project was praised for reflecting on the meaning of remakes, not merely as a profit-making tool, but as a way to honor and spotlight the original tracks. G-Dragon even sought advice from IU, who achieved great success with her own remake album “A Flower Bookmark.” IU reportedly encouraged him to approach the remake with a completely new genre, recommending he make bold creative changes.
Taking this to heart, G-Dragon infused the remake with a blend of hip-hop, disco, and funk, turning it into an EDM-style track. Rap verses were added to freshen the piece. However, critics say it may still fall short of being a “bold experiment.” For instance, “By the Moon Lighted Window” was previously arranged into a disco version by the duo One Two in 2003. Based on previews from the show, the upcoming track doesn’t seem drastically different from that arrangement.
One composer commented, “Because it’s a remake, it makes sense to choose a familiar path for the public. With so many celebrities involved, the project seems to have taken a slightly more conservative approach to appeal broadly.”
While the spirit of “togetherness” was successfully captured, some felt the song lacked G-Dragon’s trademark experimental flair. Over the years, he has been known for powerful hip-hop beats like “POWER” as well as emotive ballads like “Untitled, 2014,” always pushing boundaries.
With the release just 10 days away, fans and critics alike are watching closely. Will Good Day 2025 soar to the top of the charts, or will it be remembered as a missed opportunity to break new ground?
