“Goodbye Earth” director “Yoo Ah-in is the perfect partner for Ahn Eun-jin, I’m satisfied with his acting”

On May 3rd, reporters met director Kim Jin-min of Netflix’s original series “Goodbye Earth” at a cafe in Bukchon-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul and talked about various things.
“Goodbye Earth” depicts people living in chaos ahead of the predicted apocalypse, 200 days until the Earth and an asteroid collide. Director Kim Jin-min completed the series with his unique style of directing, portraying various human figures in Korean society facing the end.

The series garnered attention for featuring Yoo Ah-in, who is currently facing drug charges. Originally scheduled for release last year, the release was temporarily postponed due to Yoo Ah-in’s drug issue. Director Kim Jin-min stated, “It is an obligation to minimize viewers’ discomfort. Although adjustments were made to the content, we couldn’t completely remove the character due to the interrelationships between characters.”
Regarding the release of “Goodbye Earth”, director Kim Jin-min expressed relief, thanking Netflix for their decision and acknowledging the hard work of many staff members. He mentioned that despite various incidents before the release, the series came out sooner than expected.
When asked about Yoo Ah-in’s drug issue before the release, director Kim Jin-min cautiously stated that he considered it separate from the drama and could only watch the situation unfold, as it was beyond his control.

However, director Kim Jin-min praised Yoo Ah-in as a talented actor. He mentioned that Yoo Ah-in’s casting was not decided early on, but he hoped for a partner comfortable for actress Ahn Eun-jin (playing Jin Se-kyung) to act with. Yoo Ah-in had previously worked with writer Jung Sung-joo, which piqued his interest in the script. Director Kim Jin-min believed it was a good casting at the time, regardless of the controversy.
Director Kim Jin-min highlighted the excellent chemistry between Yoo Ah-in and Ahn Eun-jin on set, expressing gratitude for Yoo Ah-in’s performance and professionalism. He admired Yoo Ah-in’s portrayal of a complex character and understood why people praised his acting skills.
