“The Sixth Sense” Child Star Haley Joel Osment Arrested, Racism and Drug Allegations Spark Outrage

Haley Joel Osment (37), best known for his iconic role in The Sixth Sense, widely considered one of the greatest plot-twist films of all time, has been arrested on charges of public intoxication and drug possession. On top of that, he is now facing backlash for making racist and antisemitic remarks during the incident.

According to entertainment outlet People on April 17 (local time), Osment was taken into custody on April 8 at a ski resort in Mammoth Lakes, California, for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. The Mono County District Attorney’s Office released a statement saying Osment will be formally charged on June 7 for cocaine possession and disorderly conduct.
In a statement to People, Osment said, “I am appalled by my own behavior. The grief and despair I’ve been dealing with over the past few months brought me to a very low emotional place.”
He continued, “However, that doesn’t excuse the use of those disgusting words. I sincerely apologize to everyone I hurt. What came out of my mouth was absolute garbage, and I deeply regret disappointing the Jewish community. I won’t ask for forgiveness, but I promise to atone for this terrible mistake.”

At the time of his arrest, Osment reportedly shouted, “I’m being kidnapped by Nazis,” and hurled racial slurs and antisemitic insults at the arresting officers. He was previously charged with DUI in 2006.
The incident has shocked fans and reignited scrutiny of the former child star’s troubled history.
