In a recent interview following the release of Netflix’s ‘Gyeongseong Creature,’ Han Sohee revealed the behind-the-scenes stories related to the series.
When asked, “Have you seen the reactions to ‘Gyeongseong Creature’?” Han Sohee gave a candid answer, “Do you think it did well? Nowadays, I can’t catch whether it did well or not. Just because it gets mentioned a lot doesn’t mean it’s doing well. Even though it ranks No.1, I don’t know if it’s really good just because it’s in first place. I like my work, but I don’t think everyone will like it. I don’t feel it realistically.”
She continued, “Even though we sincerely filmed it, when viewers watch, feedback that we couldn’t have imagined can come. If we say, ‘We did it this way, so think like this,’ it’s rude. When viewers’ preferences were divided, I acknowledged that the series can be viewed in various ways.”
Han Sohee also addressed criticism of the series’ ‘melodramatic development’: “While filming, I didn’t think it was a series with only romance. I thought it was the story of various people living in that era. I thought there was love, friendship, and reconciliation in it. In the emotional lines of Tae-sang and Chae-ok, there is love, but I also thought there would definitely be comradeship. In my own way, I wanted to convey a message to look closely at each person’s life outside of romance.“
‘Gyeongseong Creature’ tells the story of a monster born of greed in the darkest spring of 1945, where the darkness of the era was the thickest, and two youths who survived. In the drama, Han Sohee played Yoon Chae-ok, a famous land surveyor who finds dead people.
