Hong Sang-soo Directly Mentions Kim Min-hee at Berlin Film Festival Amid Pregnancy Controversy

On February 20, the world premiere of Hong Sang-soo‘s latest film, “What Does That Nature Say to You,” was held in Berlin, Germany. Kim Min-hee participated in the film as a production manager.

The movie follows the story of a poet in his 30s, Dong-hwa, who unexpectedly visits the home of his lover, Jun-hee, leading to a series of events. Actors Ha Sung-guk, Kwon Hae-hyo, and Jo Yoon-hee, who have frequently appeared in Hong Sang-soo’s previous works, play the lead roles.
The premiere was attended by Hong Sang-soo and the main cast. Kim Min-hee, who is reportedly expecting a child soon, was absent. However, Hong Sang-soo directly mentioned her during the press conference.

When asked about the filmmaking process, Hong Sang-soo responded, “I have colleagues. There are three of them, including my ‘production manager’ Kim Min-hee, and with the boom mic operator, that makes four. The filming period was three weeks, with actual shooting taking place over seven to eight days.”
The relationship between Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee, which began as an extramarital affair, has sparked fresh controversy following reports that they are expecting a child this spring. On February 19, Kim Min-hee was spotted departing for Germany with a visibly pregnant belly.

Meanwhile, attention is growing over whether Hong Sang-soo will win the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. He previously received the award in 2022 for “The Novelist’s Film,” sharing the stage with Kim Min-hee at the time.
