Hong Sang-soo’s Legal Wife and Daughter Will Naturally Inherit “Still Family Despite Being Estranged”

On March 14, a video titled “How Much of a Celebrity’s Private Life Should the Public Know?” was uploaded on the YouTube channel “View port”. The discussion featured cultural critic Ha Jae-geun and divorce specialist lawyer Yang Na-rae.

During the conversation, lawyer Yang Na-rae stated, “Hong Sang-soo’s legal wife is fully entitled to inheritance without any issues. Even if they have been living separately, she still holds the legal status of a spouse, which guarantees her inheritance rights. The only cases where inheritance rights are revoked are in extreme situations, such as if the heir were to commit a serious crime, like murdering the benefactor.”

Critic Ha Jae-geun added, “Even if they are estranged, legally they are still family. Since she is his wife and their child is his legal offspring, inheritance will naturally proceed as expected.”
Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee’s relationship began in 2015 when they worked together on the film “Right Now, Wrong Then”. In 2017, during a press conference for “On the Beach at Night Alone”, they publicly confirmed their affair, stating, “We love each other.”
In 2016, Hong filed for divorce from his legal wife, but the case was dismissed and he chose not to appeal. As a result, he remains legally married while cohabiting with Kim Min-hee for the past nine years.
Kim Min-hee is reportedly pregnant with Hong’s child and expected to give birth in April.
